"Communication at its most profound level is the giving of self in love and consequently a basic attitude necessary for us Divine Word Missionaries. Strengthened by this Word we work toward that final unity where God will be all in all. "(1Cor. 15:28 ; c. 115)
Our Founder had a vision of a missionary presence that made use of all means of communication for an effective missionary proclamation. He once stated, "The pastor of souls must use every means which the signs of times dictate." Therefore, confreres should consider communication a characteristic dimension of their life and work, seek to improve their communication skills and make use, by themselves or through their laity, of all kinds of media at hand.
Our Communications Office in the Australia Province works closely with the province's Mission Secretary. Internally, "The Word in House", is published several times a year, focusing on matters of missiological interest, religious and community life or current issues in the local Church. It is a venue for confreres to share their stories and express their views.
"Society Matters," which is distributed several times a year to benefactors, supporters and friends of the SVD has become an effective means of spreading the word, of publicizing the Society.
The provincial communications coordinator is responsible for the promotion of all activities in the area of communication in the province. He communicates regularly with confreres via email and post, distributing printed material and news from the SVD world. The Australia Province website has been developed, administered and kept updated by the provincial communications office.
